The Top Rainy-Day Activities in Downtown Toronto

With Spring right around the corner, we can expect that we will soon be welcoming frequent seasonal rain showers to the city. Hopefully, that means no more snow storms, but we won’t hold our breath… During this time of year, as much as we want to start spending more time outside, we also want to stay dry which makes getting fresh air can be challenging. Thankfully there are some great rainy-day activities in downtown Toronto to keep us entertained until Summer…

Ripley’s Aquarium.

Explore the waters of the world in the heart of the city at Ripley’s Aquarium. With 16,000 aquatic animals, 450 species and over 100 interactive displays, each turn you take within this attraction bring a new and exciting aquatic species to come face-to-face with. From jellyfish to sea turtles, stingrays and of course the sand tiger sharks, you become increasingly amazed as you make your way through Ripley’s Aquarium. It draws crowds of people ranging in all ages and interests which is why it’s a top rainy-day activity in downtown Toronto.

After visiting, you become amazed at how much you learn about the world’s oceans and the living things within it. For example, did you know that every time a shark loses a tooth, the tooth in the row behind it moves up to tale the lost tooth’s place? Or that it’s actually the male seahorses who give birth to the baby seahorses? Sea, there’s so much to learn! Plus, a never-ending list of aquatic puns!

One of the best parts of visiting Ripley’s Aquarium is that you can *gently* touch stingrays and white spotted bamboo sharks! Seeing a shark in the heart of downtown Toronto seems impossible, let alone petting one.

When you’re looking for your next rainy (or snowy) day activity, Ripley’s Aquarium is top on our list, especially as it’s only about a 20-minute walk mostly indoors from our downtown Toronto hotel, One King West.

.

Royal Ontario Museum.

The Royal Ontario Museum is a must-do for a rainy-day activity in downtown Toronto. It’s easy to spend hours here, walking through the different exhibits and galleries and taking in the different sights and sounds. You can ensure there will never be a dull moment while exploring this attraction. Take for example the exhibit, Zuul: Life of an Armoured Dinosaur, is running until May 20th and takes you on a hands-on, interactive journey into the fascinating life of this recently discovered species. You can also expect to see an exhibit featuring Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Bloodsuckers and The Royal Arts of Jodhpur, India.

When you’re planning your next visit, keep in mind that One King West, our hotel in downtown Toronto, is only a 15-minute subway from the ROM.

.

Snakes & Lattes

Snakes & Lattes is a much-loved establishment amongst Torontonians because not only does it offer the typical café finds, it has a plethora of board games, delicious menus and cocktails. You could spend hours here, day or night, and never experience a pause in fun and laughter, which is why we highly suggest as a rainy-day activity in downtown Toronto. Although there are a couple locations to choose from, if you’re coming from our downtown Toronto hotel, we suggest the College Street West location as it’s about a 15-minute drive door-to-door.

.

SPIN Toronto

SPIN Toronto is a 12,000 sq.ft. ping pong social club located at on King West with 2 fully licensed bars, 12 ping pong tables, cocktail menu, full food menu, a lounge, and a private party room. If you’re looking for a slightly more active, fun thing to do for your next rainy-day activity in Toronto, SPIN Toronto should be top on your list. If you’re like most of us and thinking that you’re not an excellent ping pong player, don’t fret! This is a very laid-back environment to enjoy with friends and delicious eats. Being a 10 to 15-minute streetcar from One King West, you may want to keep this fun activity in mind for your next visit to our downtown Toronto hotel…

.

Captive Escape Room.

“There are few things more fun and engaging than being locked in a series of fantastically themed rooms with your friends or family for 60 minutes.” If you relate well to this, then Captive Escape Room should be the next venture for your next rainy-day activity in downtown Toronto! This indoor, and exhilarating activity has blown up in recent years, and continues to draw people in with its everchanging landscape. Solve a series of puzzles and riddles using clues, hints, and strategy to complete the objectives at hand and hopefully escape your confinement before time runs out. Just up Yonge Street, north of Dundas Street, Captive Escape Room can be accessed from our downtown Toronto hotel in 5-minute car ride.
