The Top Rainy-Day Activities in Downtown Toronto

With Spring right around the corner, we can expect that we will soon be welcoming frequent seasonal rain showers to the city. Hopefully, that means no more snow storms, but we won’t hold our breath… During this time of year, as much as we want to start spending more time outside, we also want to stay dry which makes getting fresh air can be challenging. Thankfully there are some great rainy-day activities in downtown Toronto to keep us entertained until Summer…

Ripley’s Aquarium.

Explore the waters of the world in the heart of the city at Ripley’s Aquarium. With 16,000 aquatic animals, 450 species and over 100 interactive displays, each turn you take within this attraction bring a new and exciting aquatic species to come face-to-face with. From jellyfish to sea turtles, stingrays and of course the sand tiger sharks, you become increasingly amazed as you make your way through Ripley’s Aquarium. It draws crowds of people ranging in all ages and interests which is why it’s a top rainy-day activity in downtown Toronto.

After visiting, you become amazed at how much you learn about the world’s oceans and the living things within it. For example, did you know that every time a shark loses a tooth, the tooth in the row behind it moves up to tale the lost tooth’s place? Or that it’s actually the male seahorses who give birth to the baby seahorses? Sea, there’s so much to learn! Plus, a never-ending list of aquatic puns!

One of the best parts of visiting Ripley’s Aquarium is that you can *gently* touch stingrays and white spotted bamboo sharks! Seeing a shark in the heart of downtown Toronto seems impossible, let alone petting one.

When you’re looking for your next rainy (or snowy) day activity, Ripley’s Aquarium is top on our list, especially as it’s only about a 20-minute walk mostly indoors from our downtown Toronto hotel, One King West Hotel & Residence.

Royal Ontario Museum.

The Royal Ontario Museum is a must-do for a rainy-day activity in downtown Toronto. It’s easy to spend hours here, walking through the different exhibits and galleries and taking in the different sights and sounds. You can ensure there will never be a dull moment while exploring this attraction. Take for example the exhibit, Zuul: Life of an Armoured Dinosaur, is running until May 20th and takes you on a hands-on, interactive journey into the fascinating life of this recently discovered species. You can also expect to see an exhibit featuring Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Bloodsuckers and The Royal Arts of Jodhpur, India.

When you’re planning your next visit, keep in mind that One King West Hotel & Residence, our hotel in downtown Toronto, is only a 15-minute subway from the ROM.
